In partnership with FACTS, Les Draperies, Les Touristes project examines prehistory and archaeology as privileged spaces for contemporary issues and questions: the planet Earth, species differentiation, the relationship with animals, climate change, human migrations, cultural preservation... A multifaceted exploration made tangible through art.

The project consiste of 5 parts:

Les Draperies,
Les Touristes,

Les Draperies

In the mysterious depths of the Grand Roc cave, stalactites used in Chinese medicine blend with draperies of smoking fabric. It’s there that coincidence strikes the soul
of Fang Dong, weaving unexpected connections between mineral forms, the swirls of draperies, and the organic textures of the stomach’s walls.

Inspired by her Chinese roots, these correspondences evoke the ancestral medical use of stalactites in Chinese medi- cine, as described in the Shen- nong bencao jing, a precious work listing the virtues of plants, animals, and minerals.

Captivated by these concretions revealed in the depths of the cave, Fang Dong draws from the richness of these geological realities to create sculptures of colored fabrics, where allusions to draperies and stalagmites mingle, weaving a poetic dialogue between nature and art.

Les Touristes

In distant lands and elusive dreams, tourists perpetually seek places that do not exist. Before embarking on these subterranean wanderings, Fang Dong scrutinizes the accounts of travelers, gleaning fragments of inspiring stories and ephemeral images.

Through photographs, films, and sounds captured in these mystical dens, she weaves a travel journal, a mirror of her culture, reflecting the sensations experienced during these deep and surprising journeys.

« By drawing from my experience and the shared emotions of other explorers, art blossoms into a world more imaginary, poetic, and free. Free to dive into the heart of the matter, to touch the es- sence of an intimate rela- tionship between creators, work, and observers. By breaking the invisible wall between observer and observed, public and creation, I wish to offer a space for feeling, to pave a path of adventure and to suspend a moment of imagination. »

Magic Machine

The living is thus defined as a "system" or "network" of information, engaged in energy exchanges. Two notions stand out: self-organization and the transmission of information. The convergence between machine and organism highlights the notion of "behavior," which was predominant in both the sciences and artistic practices of the 1960s. Behavior arises from "transactional information networks" . "The behavioral network became a tangible framework for a human-machine symbiosis, whereby the machine (or simulated machine systems) could be endowed with the
characteristics of a living organism" .
